BASED ON THE BEMBA ENGLISH DICTIONARY by the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers)
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
There are many people and organisations that helped to finally bring the Online Bemba English Dictionary (OBED) to life.
What started as a mere passing thought in 2017 is now a reference site on the world wide web.
The OBED was preceded by the registration of a trust, an Online Bemba Dictionary Trust, OBDT. This trust undertook the task of preparing and planning for an online Bemba dictionary.
The initial thank you goes to the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) for allowing the use of their Bemba English Dictionary.
Thanks also to the many Bemba speakers who were consulted and the editors who undertook the tasks successfully.
A big thank you to the many Bemba speakers in Zambia and in the diaspora who contributed the finances needed for the project to succeed.
On behalf of the Online Bemba dictionary Board and on behalf of the editorial board let me thank Mwinelumbemba, Chief Chitimukulu Kanyanta Manga ll, for his encouragement and support.
The Mwinelumbemba has been aware of this project right from it's inception.
Kanabesa na mwebekala calo, kuti natiila: Natusalipa. Naendi, kolwe natufunda, tulelwishanyafye nankwe pa cipato.
To all those who helped in so many ways, thank you so much on behalf of the OBDT Board and on behalf of all people with an interest in the Bemba language.
However, this is only the first part. The site will soon include a pronunciation facility, a phrase book, conjugation of verbs, and translation into other local languages.
The site will later include a gateway to a site on Bemba traditional stories.
