MEANING 1

To go.

The i of the modified stem –ile contracts in the past tense of today.

Example of use

1.     Ni leelo eeleko, MEANING It is today he went there.

2.     Ailamfya pa meenso ati, bekaya njishiba MEANING: He made his face dirty, saying “They will not (go and) know me.

3.     Emo ciile, MEANING: That is the meaning of it.

 

MEANING 2

To leave, depart.

Example of use

1.     Aya nokuya MEANING: He left.

2.     Naya, talaya MEANING: he has gone, he does not bid farewell.

MEANING 3

To start on a one’s last journey, to die.

Example of use

Umulwele aishiba ukuti ali na ukuya MEANING: The sick person knows that he is going (on his last journey) i.e. to die.

MEANING 4

To extend in length.

Example of use

1.     Ifitemene fiile umusoso MEANING: The garden extends in length.

2.     Ya umutima MEANING: To go away in a temper.
